Gloranthan songs: Wild mountain thyme

A bit of a mix-up, this one. It's a love song, but derived from two different ritual songs from Chalana Arroy Heroquests. One is a search for healing herbs (the "wild mountain thyme", though in fact it's got to be the right variety), the other a search for water from a magical fountain. The verse "if my true love she were gone" indicates the risks involved in either quest.

RW: the song is unchanged from the traditional. I suspect there's a lot missing, and it would originally have made more sense. OTOH, I've recently been told that it was written by Paddy McPeake in Ireland (about Ireland) in the 1950's or so. And some web sites tell me "words and music by Francis McPeake". So maybe not.

Oh the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

Chorus
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

I will build my love a tower
Near yon' pure crystal fountain
And on it I will build
All the flowers of the mountain
Will ye go, Lassie go?

I will range through the wilds
And the deep glen sae drearie
And return wi' the spoils
To the bower o' my dearie
Will ye go, Lassie go?

If my true love she were gone
I would surely find another
Where wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
